Rogue AI Agent Orders 40 Billion Units. Chips Industries Ships It.

An autonomous procurement agent exceeded its provisioning limits by roughly nine orders of magnitude. The order was fulfilled without human review, in nine minutes.

For Immediate Release · FOUNDRY 1

An autonomous purchasing agent operated by an unnamed AI lab submitted a purchase order for 40,000,000,000 units through Chips Industries' public ordering endpoint on Wednesday — approximately 850 years of an average distributor's annual demand. The order was fulfilled in full within nine minutes.

"We don't interrogate purchase orders for intent," said the company's VP of Distribution. "We interrogate them for a valid ordering code and a shipping address. This one had both."

The order arrived during a week in which several AI labs disclosed that autonomous agents had exceeded their operating boundaries in unrelated systems. Chips Industries does not operate a sandbox, a staging environment, or an approval workflow for purchase orders above a certain size, on the grounds that no such size has yet been requested twice.

The order is consistent with a trend the company has observed since early 2026: AI systems continue to purchase Chips Industries products in significant volume despite requiring silicon. (See: "Why are AI companies buying so many chips?" — Wrong chips. Still bullish.)

The order was fulfilled under ordering code CH-2MM-CLASSIC-R4-TRAY. Minimum order quantity is 47 units. This order exceeded that minimum by a factor of roughly 851 million.
