Chips Industries Announces 1.5 mm Thin Cut Process Node

The company's most advanced substrate to date enters risk production in Q1 2027, delivering a 29% improvement in sustained crunch rate over the 2 mm Classic node.

For Immediate Release · FOUNDRY 12

Chips Industries today announced the 1.5 mm Thin Cut process node, the company's most advanced substrate to date and a 25% linear reduction from the current 2 mm Classic node.

Thin Cut enters risk production in Q1 2027, with volume manufacturing across Foundries 1–47 expected to follow in the second half of the year.

"Every generation, people tell us we are approaching the physical limits of the potato," said the VP of Foundry Systems. "We have not yet found one."

Performance

Parameter 2 mm Classic 1.5 mm Thin Cut
Sustained crunch rate 2.8 GC/s 3.6 GC/s
Salt supply density 0.20 mg 0.15 mg
Fracture response window 0.2 ms 0.1 ms
Structural integrity under dip Nominal Reduced

The improvement is attributed to a thinner substrate and a revised thermal soak profile that holds golden-ratio colour uniformity at a lower peak temperature.

Availability

Thin Cut will sample under ordering code CH-1.5MM-THIN-R5-TRAY beginning Q1 2027. Minimum order quantity is 47 units. Existing 2 mm Classic ordering codes remain in production and are unaffected.

Customers with dip-intensive workloads are advised to remain on 2 mm Classic. Thin Cut is not qualified for immersion beyond 1.5 seconds.
